DNA subscriptions help identify fraud calls and spam calls
27.5.2026 10:43:37 EEST | DNA Oyj | Press release
DNA is the only operator in Finland to offer subscriptions that identify fraud calls and nuisance spam calls. The new DNA Numerovahti service works without a separately downloaded app, and regardless of the brand of the customer’s device. DNA Numerovahti is a free add-on service included in new DNA Huoleton Plus subscriptions for consumers and DNA Business Varma subscriptions for corporate customers. Both subscriptions also include secure web browsing. In addition, corporate customers can purchase the service as a separate monthly add-on to their subscriptions.

DNA actively works to prevent fraud calls on many levels, by blocking identified fraud phone numbers in the network and now also by analyzing calling behavior with the new DNA Numerovahti service. Calls from identified fraud numbers are automatically blocked in DNA’s network, and during the past year DNA blocked more than 4.2 million of these calls. The new DNA Numerovahti strengthens customer protection against fraud calls by identifying possible fraud calls and spam calls and warning customers about them.
DNA Numerovahti helps identify whether an incoming call from an unknown number is a possible fraud call or spam call and informs the customer via a notification displayed on their screen. The service flags spam calls when the caller’s behavior is disruptive and repetitive. DNA Numerovahti is part of the new DNA Huoleton Plus consumer subscriptions and DNA Business Varma corporate subscriptions. The service analyses a number’s calling behavior using artificial intelligence and utilises an extensive database of different numbers’ calling behavior. In addition to DNA Numerovahti, DNA Huoleton Plus and DNA Business Varma subscriptions include a secure web browsing service that blocks access to identified malicious sites and has already prevented millions of scam attempts in DNA’s network.
“Many people feel that answering calls from unknown numbers is not safe. According to our customer survey, nearly one in three people does not answer calls from unknown numbers. This, in turn, creates concern about missing important calls. Customers want to make informed decisions about answering calls and expect additional measures to identify fraud calls. DNA Numerovahti meets these customer needs and makes answering calls safer in an easy way without requiring a separately downloaded app. The service works as part of the subscription regardless of the device brand the customer uses,” says Heidi Havastila, Head of Value Added Services at DNA.
DNA has long been combating fraud calls at the network level. With DNA Numerovahti, fraud calls are now also prevented based on the number’s calling behavior.
“If a number’s calling behavior resembles behavior typical of fraud calls, the service warns about a possible fraud call. If the number’s behavior is repetitive, meaning exceptionally high call volumes to multiple people, i.e. spam calls, the service also informs the customer of this,” says Mari Eklund, Vice President, Communication and Customer Service Solutions, at DNA.
“In the case of high-volume calling numbers, the service only notifies if the calling behavior is disruptive. This encourages companies to adopt customer-friendly calling practices, which also increases the likelihood of calls being answered. With DNA Numerovahti, calls remain a reliable sales channel for companies,” Eklund continues.
Fraud calls are flagged on the phone screen while it is ringing with the notification in Finnish “DNA warns of a possible scam”. In such cases, the recommendation is not to answer the call. When a number is calling frequently and many people, the phone screen shows the notification in Finnish “DNA indicates the number calls many people”. In such cases, it may be, for example, a robocall, sales call, survey or recruitment campaign.
“The information displayed on the phone screen reduces the risk of becoming a victim of a fraud call. DNA Numerovahti does not affect the call itself or its completion but provides valuable additional information about the incoming call. The service helps people decide whether they want to answer the call or not. Ultimately, that choice is up to each individual,” says Havastila.
DNA Numerovahti is automatically activated in all DNA Huoleton Plus consumer subscriptions and DNA Business Varma corporate subscriptions when the subscription is taken into use. However, the service can be turned off in the self-service channel if desired. In addition, corporate customers can purchase the service for DNA Business subscriptions as a monthly add-on.
