- Kempower takes part in the Baltic-based charge point operator Ignitis ON’s EV race with the theme “Baltic Science Goes Electric”, taking place on June 12th
- The twelfth Ignitis ON electric car race gathers EV enthusiasts across the Baltics to raise awareness of e-mobility and the EV charging network of Ignitis ON
- Kempower will participate in addition to an electric car with a high-power electric truck to support the e-mobility event organized by its Lithuania based customer Ignitis

The Baltic EV charging operator, Ignitis ON, hosts its annual electric vehicle race for the twelfth time today, supported by the DC charging manufacturer, Kempower. The race takes place to showcase the ease of driving electric cars in the Baltics and to raise awareness of Ignitis ON’s EV charging network across the region.
The public event, which pays homage to scientific contributions to e-mobility through this year’s theme, starts at the Science Island in Kaunas, Lithuania, stops at the Space Exploration Center in Cēsis, Latvia, and finishes at the Ahhaa Science Center in Tartu, Estonia. Participants are challenged to choose the best route between the checkpoints, including which charging stations in Ignitis ON’s growing network to charge at and when, and have the chance to experience the latest EV models, modern science centers and expositions.
Several electric car brands, including BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche, have registered their newest EV models for participation in the race, in addition to members of the public who are also invited to register their own EVs. A total of 70 teams with unmodified electric cars are taking part in the competition.
Kempower has a growing business in the Baltics, having deployed nearly 800 charging points in the region, including public EV charging and bus depots, of which more than 280 are part of the Ignitis ON network. Erik Kanerva, Sales Director for Northern Europe, serves as the EV driver for Kempower’s electric car participating in the race.
In addition, Kempower will participate with the only long-haul truck in the race, in co-operation with the Finnish logistics and delivery company, Posti, operating as SmartPosti in the Baltics. The all-electric Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric truck, supports normally Kempower’s internal factory logistics in the Lahti region. The truck is operated by the haulier Kuljetus Ylärakkola, based in Lahti.
Erik Kanerva said “With already more than 280 Kempower charging points in Ignitis ON’s network and more than three years of collaboration, the timing is right for us to contribute to the race in a bigger way than ever before. The Baltic region has taken major steps in electrification in recent years, and we are looking forward to experiencing the expanded charging network first hand during the race. We are grateful that Posti and Kuljetus Ylärakkola supported our idea to bring our Lahti-based truck to the Baltics and contributing to the race by making fleet electrification more familiar to the public.”
Eimantas Balta, Head of EV Charging for Baltics at Ignitis ON, concludes: “We are excited to have Kempower and Posti with us in this year’s race to show that charging is simple and accessible, whether in cities, on highways, or for heavy transport. The rapid development of EV infrastructure across the Baltics shows that electric mobility is no longer a niche – it is becoming the new standard. Together with partners like Kempower, we are building a network that supports both today’s needs and future mobility.”
